Ingredients for Bread Pudding
  • 8 cups stale bread, cubed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 tbs unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup heavy cream or whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

What the best recipes taught us

  • Press the bread cubes down so every piece soaks in the custard. If the corners stay dry, they will bake hard.
  • Bake until the center is set. If you pull it while the middle is still liquid, it will not scoop.

Method

    Heat the oven to 350°F. Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.

    Spread the bread cubes in the dish.

    1cheavy cream or whole milk
    4tbsunsalted butter, melted
    3/4cgranulated sugar
    2tspvanilla extract
    1tspground cinnamon
    1/2tspkosher salt

    In a bowl, whisk the eggs, cream or milk, melted butter, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.

    Pour the custard over the bread. Press the cubes down so they soak. Rest 15 minutes.

    Cool 15 minutes before you scoop.
